I love checking out the ornaments on other people’s trees! Ornaments can tell you so much about the family that has chosen to display them every year. I think we all have our favorites, ornaments that are particularly meaningful to us. Here are some of mine.
Hubby and I bought this little guy on a trip back to our alma mater. We have a little bit of a snowman theme going on with our tree – unintentional, but I just seem to accumulate them – and he fits right in. Plus we love hockey, we love Cornell, and we love Cornell hockey. It seemed only right to celebrate the Big Red on our tree!
This is the South Light on Block Island, RI. My brother lives there, and this was a gift from him two years ago. It’s a beautiful ornament and it reminds me of one of my favorite guys.
I don’t know if this is really an ornament, but it’s been on my tree for two years now. I bought this rooster from a traditional Provencal pottery in Gigondas in 2010. This year instead of packing it away, I’m leaving it out and planning to incorporate it into my year-round decor. But it’ll always be on my tree, too.
This is another piece of Provencal pottery from that shop in Gigondas. The rooster is quintessentially French, but this rose is even closer to my heart. I love how it’s modern and traditional at the same time – just like me.
This is one of two sets of four “Snowman Chefs” that I got from Williams-Sonoma. I love them and their cheerful reminders to enjoy the treats of the season!
This is a violin ornament that I’ve had since I was a little girl. I played the violin for years and picked up the cello more recently. It’s one of those childhood ornaments that just has to be on the tree!
Do you have any favorite Christmas ornaments? Do share!
Christmas here is restricted only to a few families, but the shops and malls go all out in their Christmas decorations. I love the feel of Christmas – the colour and the vibrancy of it all.
Your ornaments are so lovely! Specially loved the guitar. The tree looks gorgeous.
I would love to see how a Christian family really celebrates Christmas, some time in my life. 🙂
Thanks! 🙂 I love Christmas and am definitely planning to share more about how my family celebrates this year. Every family has different traditions for the holiday!
OK – just curious. Is that a real tree? How do you choose a tree? Do you use the same tree every year, or buy a new one every Christmas? What do you do with the tree once Christmas is over?
Please to pardon my ignorance. I am planning to set up a Christmas tree in our house this year, since I absolutely adore them. There are not many varieties available out here, and I am pretty clueless!
It’s a fake tree. But the fact that you couldn’t tell means it must be a pretty good imitation! 🙂 I prefer the fake trees because they don’t shed pine needles, and I can’t stand to see the real ones lying by the street after Christmas. (There are tree removal services here for people who do get a real tree.) Since ours is fake we typically box it up and store it for the next year, but we’re actually getting rid of it this year because – although you can’t tell from the way the picture is situated – there are large patches where the pre-strung lights are all burnt out, and it doesn’t fit any standard bulbs. So we’ll be either buying a new fake tree next year or hubby may get his way and I’ll make my peace with a real tree.
For people who buy real trees, there are Christmas tree lots set up everywhere and they go and pick out the tree that they like best (and that will fit in their living room, one hopes!). There are Christmas trees for sale at garden centers, home improvement stores, grocery stores, schools, vacant lots – basically anywhere you can line a bunch of trees up! I even ran into one at the track near our local high school when I went there to run the bleachers a couple of weeks ago! I’m sure a tree would look lovely in your home – just pick something you like and it will be wonderful!
